Vedomosti: Russia may abandon grain export quotas
Russia may refuse to apply the grain export quota in the next agricultural year 2020-2021 (it will start in July 2020 and end in June 2021) if the industry can harvest 125 million tons and have an export potential of 45 million tons. About this newspaper "Vedomosti" with reference to its own sources.
This issue was discussed at a meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture with the largest grain exporters on June 17, according to one of the market participants.
The mechanism of quotas for grain export appeared this year and was used to limit exports and maintain sufficient volumes of domestic products. Quotas allowed farmers from April 1 to June 30 to send only 7 million tons outside the EAEU. The quota mechanism can be introduced only in the second half of the agricultural year; export is not limited to the first half.
The official crop forecast for this year is 122.5 million tons. At the same time, experts expect more: the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) expects a crop of 126 million tons, Sovekon - 128.6 million tons.
At the same time, in the south of Russia the crop is expected to be worse than last year, and in Central Russia and the Volga region it is better.
